"The removal men did an amazing job despite getting soaked on the first day."

France is certainly a country of diversity, with well over half the population having a foreign background. This makes France an interesting and constantly changing place to live. However, its not only the French population which is diverse, the country's geography is also extremely varied, considering its size.

Geography
France has a variety of landscapes from the coastal plains in the north and west to the mountain range of the Alps on the south-east. Mont Blanc, which is the highest point in western Europe is also located in France, on its border with Italy. The climate of the Alps and over mountainous areas within France is mainly alpine in nature.
The more low lying and coastal areas in the south experience warmer, more Mediterranean weather. It is this weather that attracts tourists to this area of France and makes it an ideal location to live. Other areas of France people choose to move to are separate from the mainland, in colonels in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Transporting your Car to France
If you take your car to France you will have to register your car with the French authorities, much as in the UK, and ensure that you are fully taxed and insured once you arrive in France. For more information on the legislation involved in taking your car to France contact the French government.
As with most European countries the French drive on the right side of the road, rather than the left we are used to in the UK.
Taking your pet(s) to France
By pets we mean cats and dogs only as most other pets are not easily transported to France. For details on transporting other animals please contact the French/UK Authorities. To take your pet with you to France you will need:
- A valid PETS Passport
- A valid DEFRA approved veterinary certificate
- A micro chip implanted into the animal
- All vaccinations completed (at least 7 months before travel)
- All blood tests completed and passed
Taking your cat or dog to France on the Euro tunnel or by ferry is relatively inexpensive at between £10 and £40. Some ferry companies even allow you to book your pet a ticket online, on the condition that you are accompanying the animal. We highly recommended you contact the ferry company you are planning to travel with for further details as each one treats the transportation of animals differently.
