5 Quirky Facts About Alderbury & Whaddon
- Violet Pinckney
Born in Alderbury, Violet Millicent Pinckney was an English tennis player who won the German Championships in 1903 before going on to reach the quarter finals of Wimbledon. Alderbury still has a tennis court so who knows, maybe the village will yet produce a Wimbledon champ?!? - William Morris
St Mary’s Church in Whaddon, built in 1857 (on the site of an older church), boasts a window designed by the world renowned designer William Morris. Morris is considered to be one of the most influential cultural figures of his age and his work is still much revered and sought-after. - 2 for 1
