Sherborne Removals

We have moved many of our customers both to and from Sherborne. If you are looking to start a new life in Sherborne, retire to Sherborne or buy your dream holiday home, we can help you. We would be glad to design a Sherborne removal service directly tailored to your needs.

We have been moving our customers to/from Sherborne for many years and our Sherborne removals experience is second to none.

The market town of Sherborne, sited on the River Yeo on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, was named ‘scir burne’ by its original Saxon inhabitants, after a brook that runs directly through the town- a name which means ‘clear stream’. In the 12th Century, the Bishop of Salisbury and the Chancellor of England built a palace in the town, which was destroyed in 1645 by General Fairfax. Sir Walter Raleigh built an Elizabethan mansion in the grounds, which today is known as Sherborne Castle. The postcode district for the town is DT9, with a dialing code of 01935. It is around 124 miles away from London, but only 6 miles away from Yeovil. Sherborne is a founding member of the ‘Douzelage’, a town twinning group of 24 towns within the EU. Other towns within the ‘Douzelage’ include Bellagio in Italy, Granville in France and Preveza in Greece. Much of the old town in Sherborne is made from distinctive ochre-coloured ham stone- for example, many medieval and Georgian buildings used it for construction. For centuries the town has hosted an annual street fair called ‘Pack Monday’, devoted to sideshows, a funfair and stalls. Some of the weekly markets in Sherborne include the Farmers’ Market on the 3rd Friday of each month, the Pannier Market every Thursday and Saturday, and the Country Market every Thursday morning. It’s clear to see why Sherborne is a desirable place to live, and whether you are moving to or from the area, we can plan and tailor a package to suit your requirements.

About Sherborne

Sherborne is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful towns in England. With its abundance of medieval buildings, superb Abbey, world famous Schools, picturesque Almshouse and two Castles, Sherborne has much to offer. Ideally located on the Dorset and Somerset border it has excellent transport links enabling the town to flourish.

Sherborne Boys School, originally King Edward’s School, has been built on the remains of the abbey buildings and was founded in 1550. It is one of the great public schools of England and still uses the monastic buildings attached to the Abbey.

The town is crammed with historic interest with 17th, 18th and 19th century architecture set in unspoilt streets. Medieval buildings are abound in the town, the most important of which are The Almshouse of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist; The 15th Century Conduit House and The Julian, an early 16th Century house originally the hospice of St Julian of Norwich. The town also has an excellent small museum with many local artefacts, Purse Caundle Manor and Sandford Orcas Manor are nearby.

Sherborne is a busy business and market centre for a wide area. It still retains small and specialist businesses and has a delightful shopping centre with a large choice of handcrafted goods and elegant fashions. It has also become an important town in the region for art and antique dealers. Excellent hotels and a variety of other good quality accommodation make Sherborne a fine centre for those wishing to explore the delightful and unspoilt Wessex area of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
