    Did you know…

    1. Meet The Neighbours
      Famous faces to have made the town home include Gary Lineker, Mick Hucknall, Chris Tarrant, Frank Lampard, Lily James, Maurice Gibb and George Harrison.
    2. All Doomed
      According to the Domesday Book (1086), Esher had a population of 25 villagers, 6 cottagers and the land was owned by Bishop Odo, William the Conqueror’s brother.
    3. The Priory
      Around the 12th century an order of Augustinian monks established a priory. In 1349 the Black Death ravaged the area of all the monks died while tending to the sick
    4. Priory Pt II
      After it was re-established, the monastery ran into financial difficulties thanks to the new monks’ extravagant spending. It was forced to close in 1436.
    5. Whodunnit?
      Sir Arthur Conan Doyle set the Sherlock Holmes mystery, The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge, in the town
    6. She Done It
      In 1854 it was at the centre of a real murderous scandal, when a former wetnurse to the Prince of Wales killed 6 of her 7 children. Somewhat ghoulishly, her house became a tourist attraction, attracting crowds from London.
    7. The Big House
      Claremont House has had royal residents. Prince Leopold and Princess Charlotte of Belgium moved in. It’s where King Louis Philippe spent his last two years after being exiled from France and Queen Victoria enjoyed much of her childhood.

    A stunning location with royal connections, Queen Victoria was one of just many regular regal visitors and residents. The town has been a celebrity hangout with footballers, Bee Gees and even a Beatle moving to Esher.

    Once a target for highwaymen, the modern town is a short hop from the centre of London, while sitting in a rural and picturesque part of the county.
