      500 sarsen stones, like those at Stonehenge, once stood on top of nearby Tower Hill.

      The infamous highwayman Dick Turpin was one of many rogues who operated in the area from the 16th to 18th centuries.

      The Army Balloon Factory, a potty bunch, invented and built all kinds of weird flying contraptions at what later became the UK’s first airfield.
    5. ‘Yeehaw!’
      In 1908 it was the site of the UK’s first powered flight. Samuel Cody flew ‘British Army Aeroplane No 1’. An extravagant maverick and Wild West showman, he claimed to be the son of ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody.

      IQ Farnborough (a business park and home to a number of major UK companies) was once used as a race track by Jermeny Clarkson and co on the BBC’s Top Gear.
    7. Hang In There
      The giant structure sitting inside the business park is pre-war airship hanger, dating back to 1910. It’s now a Grade II listed monument.
