The city is home to St Mary’s Stadium, home to Southampton FC (or the Saints if you are a regular) where there is always a hub of activity throughout the season. The stadium hosts 19 Premier League games throughout the season and with more than 32,000 fans cheering on Saints, you can be sure of a great atmosphere – no matter what the end result is.
If you are into your shopping then West Quay is the place to go especially if you are a fan of retailers such as John Lewis, Cath Kidston, Superdry, Apple, or other high-end brands with big names. If you fancy yourself king or queen of the flat-pack, Southampton is also home to popular home retailer IKEA which backs on to the shopping centre.

By car, the M27 and M3 all lead to Southampton and navigating around the city is simple. Access to most major sites of interest is available by walking from the city centre. There are many places to park for long durations of time too.
By train, you can get to and from London, Gatwick Airport, Cardiff, Manchester and Brighton all from Southampton. The train services run frequently.
By bus, there are regular services that run to Southampton from nearby towns and cities, and you can get bus service from the train station to the city centre.
By air, you can fly to Southampton airport, which is just a few miles away from the city. From there, you can fly to multiple holiday destinations, and fly in from a range of UK cities.
All these factors mean getting to and from Southampton is very easy.
In Southampton, there are 79 state-run schools including 24 primary schools and 10 secondary schools (2 with sixth-forms), and both the University of Southampton, and Solent University are based in the city. Both Universities together have a student population of over 40,000, and rank highly amongst others in the UK.
There are other schools and Universities nearby in Portsmouth, and Bournemouth (and a little further north is Winchester), so the choice is very vast.

If you are central then you might look at Alma Road Surgery, Burgess Road Surgery or Highfield Health all having a central location. To the East and West there are a number of other choices and you can find your nearest practice by entering your address on the on the NHS website.
There are also a number of hospitals in and around Southampton including, Southampton General Hospital, Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton Children’s Hospital, Royal South Hants and New Forest Birth Centre. The largest accident & emergency department is based at Southampton General Hospital.
