If you are moving house, looking to start a new life in Stockbridge or retiring to Stockbridge, we can help you.
This picturesque town in the heart of the test valley is one of the smallest in the UK. It sits astride the River Test at the foot of the Stockbridge Downs in West Hampshire.
It was first attested in the charter of 1239 and the local legend is that the name derives from a bridge made from Stocks or tree trunks. It is set on the A30, once a route used between the two medieval cities of Winchester and Salisbury. It was also on a drover’s route used for sheep and cattle to Wales.
The town is built around one long wide street, very similar to how it would have looked from the 12th century onwards. Many buildings are listed from this the 13th century to 19th century.
There are schools, doctors and dentists in the town but it also has a remarkable range of shops, pubs and cafes that helped it achieve the best foodie street award in 2010. There are also art galleries, craft and gift shops
There are local B & Bs allowing you to stay and see many of the local sites. Many poets have been inspired by the region and there is a trail of 10 poems throughout the town. Nearby there are a range of interests including a hill fort, gardens, vineyards and flying museum.
The River Test is world renowned for its trout fishing and Houghton Club is the oldest in England founded in 1882. There is also a non-league football club.
Stockbridge is close to the A30 and not too far away from the A303. Salisbury is only 15 miles away, Winchester is only 8 miles and so all facilities can be close to hand.
