Hounslow Facts – Did you know…

    1. Stand & Deliver!
Dating back to the Roman era and the ancient road known as ‘The Devil’s Highway’, Hounslow has always stood on a major route in and out of London. Later the route became popular with highwaymen looking for rich travellers.
    2. Fancy Seeing You Here
You couldn’t imagine a more diverse mix of Hounslow removals; Sir David Attenborough, Hugh Grant, Phil Collins, William Hogarth, Pocahontas, Sir Mo Farah, Pete Townsend, Jimmy Carr and Vincent Van Gough have all laid called ‘H-low’ home.
    3. Bohemian Neighbours
Farookh Bulsara grew up in Hounslow before studying at Ealing College, where he met Bryan May and Roger Taylor and changed his name to Freddie Mercury.
    4. Quiet Life
In 1086, the Domesday Book recorded a population of less than 200. There were 146 villagers, 10 smallholders, 6 cottagers, 1 priest, 2 mills, a fishery, ploughland, meadows and 500 sheep.
    5. Home To Roost
Sir Thomas Morris was a self-made man who established a chicken farming empire in the borough. A philanthropist, he built homes for the poor and a free school so under-privileged children could receive an education. He was also a distant relative of turkey tycoon, Sir Bernard Matthews.
    6. War Mongering
The Romans started it with a number of military camps in the area. Oliver Cromwell camped his army on the heath in the English Civil War. James II trained troops there as a display of power to Parliament during the Glorious Revolution. And Hounslow Cavalry Barracks were used in WWI and WWII.

    About

Masked highwaymen, revolting peasants, bohemian singers, earless painters, even national treasure Sir David Attenborough, have all found something special in Hounslow. The area is anything but ‘average’ with wonderful surprises you might not expect in an urban setting.

Easy access to the city, the M25 and Surrey all add to the appeal of this property hotspot.

    Leisure

Kids can explore the urban farm while ‘golfists’ will find a choice of courses. There’s a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and eateries for foodies. Newbies can sample a brewery tour at Fullers of London or get artistically inspired at William Hogarth’s house. Twickenham, Wimbledon and Syon Park and all in easy reach.
