    Did you know…

    1. Park Life
      In Milton Keynes you’re never more than half a mile from the nearest park. In total the town has 165 parks covering more than 5,000 acres of sports fields, play areas, woodland and 15 lakes. More than 60% of the city is green space.
    2. Just Like New York
      The main roads are laid out in the American grid system. While most UK street systems have evolved over time with no pre-planning, the US-style system employed by Milton Keynes is simple to navigate.
    3. Milton Henge
      Midsummer Boulevard, MK’s most central street, is aligned so that the sun shines along its length on Midsummer’s Day.
    4. It’s New
      Built on the site of Middleton Kaynes, a village dating back to the 13th century, modern MK wasn’t built until 1967. The original plans were to build a town for 250,000 residents that offered “opportunity and freedom of choice”. In 2023 the town gained ‘city’ status.
    5. Don’t Have Cow
      The much-maligned concrete cows are part of MK folklore. During their lifetime they’ve been stolen, kidnapped and held for ransom, graffitied, painted pink, worn pyjamas and even beheaded.
    6. Off Pitch
      Wimbledon FC were controversially moved from London to Milton Keynes and renamed ‘MK Dons’. A bitter rivalry now exists between the ‘stolen’ club and AFC Wimbledon, founded by disgruntled fans of the original team.

    Milton Keynes is a fantastic location with one eye firmly on the future. While its street plan might be a source of mickey-taking, it’s helped create one of the UK’s greenest and most spacious towns. It has an excellent shopping centre, live events, entertainment and everything you could need, right on your doorstep.

    From its concrete cows to the football team, ‘MK’ seems to attract controversy but all these quirks only add to the town’s charms which are equally defended and mocked by locals.

    Leisure

    There are over 160 green spaces for sports, and fitness plus the Redway, a series of cycle and pedestrian paths. In total locals have 5,000 acres of green space to enjoy.

    Shoppers are also well catered for, as well as the big high street names and designer stores, there are cool independent shops plus markets. Yearly events cover fashion, interior design, food, music, comedy and more including the bi-annual MK International Festival.
