If you are moving house, looking to start a new life in Cheddar or retiring to Cheddar, we can help you.
Cheddar is a large village and civil parish in the Sedgemoor district. It is situated on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, 9 miles north-west of Wells. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Nyland and Bradley.
Cheddar is just 10 miles from Bristol International Airport and under 20 miles from Bristol Temple Meads mainline railway station which offers commuters to London a journey taking as little as one and a half hours so although it is in the heart of the countryside, you are in easy reach access too.
Cheddar itself is on the edge of the Somerset Levels, Cheddar’s elevation soars 500 feet to the top of Cheddar Gorge one of the country’s most famous landmarks. Formed over one million years ago during the last ice age, Cheddar Gorge and Cheddar Caves are available to explore and are home to prehistoric findings including Britain’s oldest complete skeleton, the Cheddar Man.
Unsurprisingly, Somerset’s impressive gorge boasts three impressive titles: a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With all this on your doorstep just waiting to be explored, what is not to love?!
However, it’s not just the iconic landscape that puts Cheddar on the map: Cheddar cheese is world-famous and the traditional method of cheese making can still be seen today.
Cheddar offers an array of traditional shops in its town centre. In addition, large supermarkets can be found in Wells or Weston Super Mare both a short drive away.
Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge also offers numerous restaurants and cafes. There are no less than eight hotels in and around Cheddar plus numerous bed and breakfast type accommodations so there are plenty of options for visiting friends and family who you might want to recruit to help you unpack!
Cheddar has a large medical centre and three schools. It also has a leisure centre and offers sailing at the nearby reservoir plus untold walks in the Mendip hills surrounding the village.
