How long do you need to complete a removals survey?
We would usually take no more than an hour to assess your
requirements, and answer any questions you may have regarding our service.
When should I contact a removals company?
It is never too early to make a start. In an ideal world we would recommend you commence your search for a specialist international mover two to three months in advance, to allow yourself sufficient time to obtain competitive quotations, finalise your shipping and/or storage requirements and make all the necessary arrangements.
How do I arrange a quotation?
Simply either give us a call on Freephone 0800 917 1015, or complete our Request a Quote form on our website. Our home survey is free of charge and without any obligation.
One of our fully trained and experienced removals consultants will visit you to discuss when you want to move, what you are taking with you and what you may need to store. He or she will advise on what may or may not be practical to transport, assess any special packing or delivery requirements and identify any other requirements such as parking permits, hoists or lifting equipment necessary for the safe removal of your goods.

China and glass kitchenware – 1 box holds the equivalent of 1 cupboard
Books – 1 box hold 3 foot of shelf space
Linen – 1 box will hold 1 shelf worth of linen
What items are prohibited from shipment?
Certain items cannot be accepted for storage or transportation under general conditions of carriage and terms of insurance. For example: food, cash, bonds, jewellery, alcohol, fireworks or other explosives, flammable gases, liquids or solids, poisons and toxins, corrosives, radioactive materials, ammunition or firearms, scuba tanks, gas cylinders, aerosol cans, butane lighters and other pressurised vessels or pornography of any description. It is also inadvisable to include perishables or liquids, which could leak in transit causing extensive damage. If you have any concerns please contact one of our sales consultants.
What items are prohibited from importation?

Can I take my car overseas?
In some countries, the import duty on cars is so expensive you may not want to even think about importing one. Others will have special regulations regarding emission controls or even have rigorous steam cleaning requirements. Please check with your mover.
Does Armishaws employ trained export packers?
Packing for Overseas moves is a specialist job. We have a team of packers, all of whom are specially trained in packing for overseas removals.
Does Armishaws use quality packing materials?
We are use materials of the highest quality for packing. This is a particular consideration for overseas removals, as your household contents need to withstand the rigours of a long journey.
Can Armishaws store my belongings?
Yes, we offer a full, secure storage service, for any length of time. Whether you require long term or short term storage, our secure container storage system will ensure the safety and care of all your personal or business possessions.
Can I reclaim VAT on new goods?
VAT can be reclaimed on goods to be removed outside of the European community.
What insurance does Armishaws provide?
Full Liability Cover in accordance with our terms and condition – with no excess to the policy.
What happens on arrival at the destination?
All overseas goods are customs cleared and delivery to the new residence full unwrapped, unpacked and the debris is removed.
Can I store everything?
Armishaws have special facilities to handle any items that cannot be stored in containers. Carpets, ladders, motorcycles, cars and caravans all receive individual attention and care. Obviously, no plants, food or animals should be sent for storage. We cannot store precious items such as jewellery, deeds or money for you; nor can we store hazardous goods like paint, aerosols or gas bottles. If you are in any doubt, our expert staff will be able to advise you on items which are unsuitable for storage.
How do I prepare my items for storage?
All storage items need to be clean and dry, so prepare outdoor and garden items for storage well in advance of removal day. If you are placing your refrigerator or freezer into storage, defrost them about one week beforehand. Make sure your washing machine or spin dryer is clean and dry. Some electrical appliances require special preparation before being moved so you should seek expert advice in plenty of time.
What if I need access to my belongings?
Talk to our removals consultant about any items you may wish to retrieve from storage before others. We can then make sure that those belongings are accessible when you need them.
Do I need insurance?
You should arrange comprehensive insurance for all your belongings during removal and storage.
How do I know everything is safe?
We want you to feel completely reassured that your belongings are in safe hands. You are welcome to visit any of our storage facilities to see for yourself how we will take care of your possessions during removal and storage.
