Alderbury & Whaddon are two small villages lying next door to each other on a hill in beautiful unspoilt countryside three miles to the south-east of Salisbury, in the southern tip of Wiltshire.
With a population of about 2,000, this quiet rural backwater belies a thriving and long-standing community with a strong sense of identity.
There are a number of footpaths around the villages, (click here to download a map of the local designated footpaths), giving you plenty of free and easy exercise. A recreation ground gives you the chance to practice sports – Tennis player Violet Millicent Pinckney, who won the German championships in 1903 and reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon, was born at Alderbury, so there’s a strong sporting history here.
The parish also includes the hamlet of Shute End. The River Avon forms the western boundary of the parish and the parish is conveniently situated along the main A36, taking you to Salisbury or Southampton in minutes.

Ivychurch Priory, near Alderbury, was an Augustinian monastery established in the 12th century and dissolved in 1536.
In modern times, the villages are now commuter territory, and much of its former industries are gone.
