The town is twinned with La Fleche in France and a road running through the centre has been dedicated to the twinning- Avenue La Fleche. A stone structure called the Buttercross was erected in 1570 and was used for the sale of meats and dairy. It was bought for £6 in 1889 but is still standing today in the town centre.
