Part of Celtic Britain, predating the Romans, Leatherhead was formerly known as Leodridan. Recorded in the Domesday Book, it later became a major stopping point for horse drawn carriages and mail services in and out of London, making it a target for highwaymen and other colourful characters.
Today it’s a thriving commuter town with great transport links, independent shops and a good selection of cafes, bars and restaurants.
As well as offering easy access to London’s museums, events, galleries and theatres, this is a modern town with excellent amenities. A large leisure centre is home to three swimming pools, two sports halls, soft play area, squash courts, indoor bowls and a gym. If you prefer your sport ‘straight down the middle’ there are a number of local golf courses.
After their Leatherhead removals, new residents can discover the town’s quirky/quacky side at the annual duck race, along with an arts festival, music events, museum and theatre.
