Devizes is a colourful market town located in the heart of Wiltshire, 15 miles from the M4. There’s a wealth of history and architectural heritage to explore, with a hive for traditional independent shops and businesses making it a wonderfully different place to browse or enjoy bite to eat.
With over 500 listed buildings, lovely parks and picturesque town centre, Devizes is both charming and interesting for newcomers to explore.
History buffs have plenty to get their teeth into, the area has been the site of a number of historic battles from Cromwell and the Civil War back to The Anarchy of the 12th century and even further to the Iron Age hill fort and Bronze Age discoveries. Of course, Amesbury and Stonehenge are a (very heavy) stone’s throw away.
Today there’s a mix of antique and trendy stores. Locals enjoy a thriving art scene and annual arts festival, a street festival and carnival. There are a number of local societies and groups if you’re looking to try something new, plus a cinema and theatre as well as a leisure centre with a gym and swimming pool.
